Alternatives to Nursing Home Care

Alternatives to Nursing Home Care

If you need help for somebody who needs daily physical or other therapy, you probably are looking for a nursing home.  For anybody else, you may actually prefer a less institutional setting:  services at home, in some kind of day program, or in an assisted living or supportive living facility.  Learn more about possible choices, and what financial help is available to pay for them, here  in the Illinois Department on Aging's Choices for Care in Illinois book.

If you want to talk to an expert about what services exist in your area to allow a person to stay home, or move out of a nursing home back to her community, you can call your local Area Agency on Aging. The Area Agency on Aging staff can give you advice about helping a person who is at least 60 years old.
