DNR

Do-Not-Resuscitate order. An order by a resident’s doctor that manual or mechanical means are not to be used to help restart a resident’s breathing or heart beating. A DNR order does not mean the staff should not help a resident who is choking. A DNR order may be entered only with the permission of the resident or someone authorized to make medical decisions for her.
